Dialogue between Islam and other faiths is nothing new. This has been going on during the medieval times. The
speaker, Dr Ibrahim Zein will delve into the works of one of the greatest Islamic Scholar during the Golden Age
of Islamic Science, Abu Raihan Muhammad Al-Biruni, also known as Al-Biruni.
 
Al-Biruni, was a true Muslim scientist who specialized in Physics and Geology. He was also a pioneer in
comparative religion, especially engaging dialogue between the Hindus, Buddhism and Christians. 
 
Dr Ibrahim Zein will discuss on Al-Biruni’s approach and technique; its admirably objective and unprejudiced
fact, of which certain unity in the religious experience of the people should exist in order to live harmoniously
despite the differences or similarities of other believes/faiths, which are relevant in today context. 
 
An excellent platform for reflection and contemplation of oneself in engaging and promoting goodwill between
the adherent of faiths. We hope that this lecture will facilitate to aspire us to improve our social harmony.
 

Dr. Ibrahim Mohd Zein, is currently a Dean at International Institute of Islamic Thought & Civilization
(ISTAC), IIUM. His area of specialization is Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Education, Islamic Sociology &
Comparative Religion. He obtained his Degree and Master in Philosophy from University of Khartoum, Sudan
and Master and Ph.D. in Religion from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA. 
 
A soft-spoken person, Dr Ibrahim Zein is actively involve in dialogues, conferences, workshops, seminars and
works at home and abroad. To name a few, he involved in Center for Interdiscplinary Study of Monotheistic
Religions (CISMOR) International Workshop in Japan and KL, Malaysia and recently, Conference on Qur’anic
Frameworks for Society – Islam, Multiculturalism, Pluralism and Peace on 16-17 June 08 at The Old Royal
Naval College, University of Greenwich, London.
 
Dr Ibrahim Zein is also an International Advisory Board 2008 for International Conference on Engineering
Professional Ethics & Education (ICEPEE).
