Death is an important theme in the Qur'an. It reminds us of its imminence and how we should prepare for it. The life of the Prophet and his companions tell us of how heart-breaking death is to them and how they coped with the news of beloved ones who passed.

In this retreat, we will address the topic of death through the eyes of the Qur'an and the Hadith and highlight important points for us as family members who are preparing and bracing ourselves with impending departure of a loved one.

SCOPE
Speaker 1: Ustaz Muhammad Fizar Zainal 
- Death 101 – What is death, What to expect will happen after death
- Preparing for death - How should a Muslim feel about the impending death of a loved ones
- Life after death, the souls journey after death in Islam
- Verses and hadith on remembering death

Speaker 2: Ustazah Dr. Sakinah Saptu
- Dealing with grief in accordance with the Sunnah - How do Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and his companions expressed their grief
- Ta'ziyah, the Sunnah method of consoling the bereaved
- What can we do for our deceased loved ones?
- Proper etiquette of dealing with this loss according to the Hadith/Sunnah.
(This is session will be conducted in Malay)

Speaker 3: MSW Fadhiilah Ismail
- Real life Planning for life to take charge of one's death
- Understanding grief, and when to seek help
- Self-care, respite and available resources

SPEAKERS' PROFILES

Speaker 1: Ustaz Muhammad Fizar Bin Zainal
Ustaz Fizar Zainal is presently one of the leading young Ustaz in Singapore. He graduated from Damascus, Syria, with a Diploma in Arabic Language and also holds a Graduates Diploma in Dialogues of Civilisations. He also holds a Diploma in Counselling & Psychology from APMI Kaplan.His previous work experience of four years at a local Mosque in Singapore & four years at Safinah Institute has given him the ability to assess the needs of the community and society better. He is presently the Head of The Department of Education at Badan Agama & Pelajaran Radin Mas (BAPA). He is also an active and leading Murabbi for the ADIL Islamic Education program by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) at various Mosques in Singapore. He is also an appointed Marriage Preparation Program (MPP) Educator for the Cinta Abadi Marriage program - jointly organised by the Ministry of Social & Family, Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura & Mendaki Sense.

Speaker 2: Ustazah Dr Sakinah Saptu
Ustazah Dr Sakinah holds a PhD and Masters in Hadith (Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah department - Faculty of Islamic studies) from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia. She has served in Darul Ghufran mosque as a da'wah officer in 2008 and was also appointed to be a part-time tutor at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2009. In 2013, she has been appointed to be a lecturer at Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah to teach Diploma in Islamic studies. In the same year, she has also served as research assistant for the Children's Fiqh studies in Shariah Department – Faculty of Islamic Studies, UKM. She has been very active in writing journals and articles related to the study of al-Qur'an and al-Sunnah. Dr Sakinah is presently active in giving talks on Hadith especially to the Muslim community in Singapore.

Speaker 3: Ms Fadhiilah Ismail
Fadhiilah Ismail is a social worker who starts her early career as an executive in a local mosque. She has been in social services for almost a decade; her wide ranging experience includes working with married minor couples, multi-stressed families and outreach works to individuals and families experiencing housing and shelter issues. She is a graduate of International Islamic University Malaysia, and holds Master of Social Work from Singapore University of Social Sciences. She presently serves as a Medical Social Worker in Changi General Hospital (CGH), where she is a part of multi-disciplinary team that advocates and facilitates the continuity of care and support to patients as well as their family members.
