Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said, _"Verily, the Shariah is founded upon wisdom and welfare for the servants in this life and the afterlife. In its entirety it is justice, mercy, benefit and wisdom. Every matter which abandons justice for tyranny, mercy for cruelty, benefit for corruption, and wisdom for foolishness is not a part of Shariah even if it is introduced therein by an interpretation.”_

Prophet Muhammad, even as the de facto ruler of Arabia, wrote the Charter of Medina in which Muslims were held to Shariah Law, and Jews to the Law of the Torah. This grand gesture of respect exemplified by our beloved Prophet reflects aptly how, when we put the maqasid (objectives) as basis of our perspective of Shariah, we will never come up with fatwas/rules that are wrong.

Shariah literally means 'a path that leads to water'. Any path that leads to the source of all life should not be feared, but rather learned, understood and embraced especially in strengthening our personal relationship with the Creator.
