Mosque Tech Challenge 2016 and launch of Masjid Darul Ghufran's Smart Mosque Initiative

[Event has ended]

Innamal a'malu binniyat - “Actions are dependent upon their Intentions”

Ideas form from all places, why not we nurture ideas from the the most pure and sacred place of our community, that is the mosque. This challenge comprises of learning workshops, discovery sessions and a 24hr+ hackathon that aims to bring youth closer to the Mosque to seek, implement and share the best and coolest ideas with technology towards the benefit of the community.

This year we are planning to focus on specific areas provided by Masjid Darul Ghufran and explore how technology can solve them. We will also see the launch of a Tech Incubator within a mosque, "Smart Mosque Initiative" to provide continuity for the solutions developed. We hope to invite participants from all over the region also.

There will be workshops leading up to the hackathon to introduce participants to some tools, and hence in the process of thinking about ideas, build our capacity for the skills and knowledge required - for the future. These workshops will be open to those who are not taking part too and will be free.

This hackathon will be special as it will be held during Ramadhan in a mosque and participants will be able to take part in the special night prayers and also mass iftar.

We are looking for participants 18-40 years old in groups of maximum 3.
Non-Muslims are welcome to take part.
Do register early as spaces are limited.

What will this year's challenge be about?
You will be presented with specific problem areas Masjid Darul Ghufran is facing and we want your team to build a prototype to solve them (See briefing date below).

Whether it's in the format of a Mobile App, a Web App or a Hardware implementation - or a combination - we want to see it solve the challenges, and we want it to be cool :)

Judging will be done by our panel of judges from the industry and the mosque committees. Take this time right now to brush up your skills as you only have 24 hours to implement it - actually more (28 hours) as we understand participants will be performing the ritual prayers and also need enough time to break fast.

Prizes to be won. Watch this space for updates!

The challenges will be presented at the briefing session which will be held on 28 May 2016, 3pm at IDA Labs at the National Design Centre
(InsyaAllah we'll set up a Live stream for those who are not able to be in Singapore on that date)
Please fill up this Google Docs if you wish to attend the briefing session but have not yet decided to take part in the hackathon:
