asiya, muslimah, how the quran honours women

Fees: S$18

Asiya (R.A) was a woman of tremendous strength and character. Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) described her as one of the four most pious women in the world and will be one of the first to enter Paradise.

The second of a series of ladies-only talks which revels in the special place Women hold in Islam, the story of Asiya (R.A) will display the trials and tribulations she endured; the patience and perseverance she displayed; and the resolve and determination she carried with her.

Asiya (R.A.) was the wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled Egypt in ancient times. When the Pharaoh was told by a fortune-teller that he was going to be overtaken by a man from Bani Israel, the children of Israel, he ordered that all male babies would have to be executed. The Quran describes this horrific life of Bani Israel when it says what is translated as, “And remember, we delivered you from the people of Pharaoh. They set you hard tasks and punishments, slaughtered your sons and let your women live therein what's a tremendous trial from your Lord.” Surah Baqarah verse 49.

When Musa (A.S) was born, his mother feared for his life, but Allah assured her that he would be safe and told her to place him in a boat on the Nile. And just as Allah had promised, Musa came safely to the shore where he was found by Asiya (R.A.). Asiya (R.A.) then convinced her husband to keep the child. The wife of Pharaoh said, “A comfort for the eye, for me and for you. Kill him not. Perhaps he may be of benefit for us and we may adopt him as a son. And they perceived not the result of that. Surah Qasas verses 8-9.

As years passed by, Prophet Musa (A.S.), who lived in Egypt then, would call the people to Allah's Oneness. Asiya believed in Musa's message and she held firm to her faith. That faith was so strong that she was willing to die for it. When Firaun found out that she believed, he tortured her severely.

Despite all the persecution that she was going through, Allah s.w.t made it easy on her so much so that when she was being tortured she actually smiled. And the reason why she smiled was because Allah S.W.T answered her dua and allowed her to actually see her home in Jannah.

The story of Asiya (R.A.) will attempt to instill positive character values by inspiring attendees to adopt the positive traits and virtues she displayed in their everyday life – to analyse, understand and emulate the positive character traits Asiya (R.A.) displayed in the face of adversity and mould their characters with guidance from the Quran and Hadiths.

Asiya (R.A.) has set a perfect example for us to follow, because she was a Queen and could have had anything that her heart desired. Despite this, she gave up her Throne, freedom, all the luxuries in the world just to gain Allah's mercy so that she could have a place in Jannah.
