Kids aLIVE Home Edition Check-In
Fees: $5 per pax
Kids aLIVE Home Edition (KAHE) and Check-Ins:
The Kids aLIVE Home Edition is a new programme designed to allow parents to teach their children in the comfort of their homes. Parents will be able to use all the available resources and follow the lesson plans that are provided to their children. They will also have the academic support by trained and qualified asatizah at the mosque.
The programme is available for free. All content materials are fully provided online via iTunesU and Dropbox. Successful registered participants will be given a secured link to the online content. Parents may also refer to the “Parents Companion Guidebook” prior to the implementation of the Kids aLIVE Home Edition. Training to parents are available during the check-ins (see below).
Check-In:
Check-ins are a crucial part to the learning experience of students in the Home Edition. It will allow children and parents to check-in themselves to the mosque, as we believe that the mosque is central to Islamic Education as a way to put into practice the knowledge learnt by devoting ourselves to our Creator and to interact with the community.
During check-ins, parents can update the progress of their child to the asatizahs at the mosque and participate in learning activities that can improve their skills in teaching their children. Examples of learning activities planned for parents are; story-telling workshops, designing & implementing routines for lessons at home, understanding childhood development 0-8 years old and many others. The learning activities will be shared by our invited speakers that are well-versed in their areas.
Registered KAHE students attending on the other hand will participate in activities with the asatizahs together with other students of KAHE. A small fee is charged for participation in the check-ins.
Program Highlights:
Story Telling Workshop for Parents by Professional Storyteller Kamini Ramachandran
“Allah Creates our Family” for Kids aLIVE Home Students
Synopsis for Story Telling Workshop:
The story telling workshop will focus on techniques of engaging young children, selecting appropriate stories and different ways of telling stories for pre-schoolers.
Parents will be introduced to draw-and-tell stories, hand action tales, rhyming tales, story songs, using puppets and props etc. The stories will emphasise good values from different cultures.
Parents will be given an opportunity to participate and share stories in a group activity. The story-teller will touch on the importance of vocal variation, facial expression and gestures when telling to young children.
CV of Kamini Ramachandran:
Storytelling has always been vital for Kamini Ramachandran, from her earliest memories of her grandparents telling her stories to her efforts in continuing this storytelling tradition with her two sons every day since they were six months old. Fluent in both English and Malay, Kamini studied English Literature & Language at the University of Reading (UK) and taught Speech and Drama privately in Kuala Lumpur before becoming a mother. An avid collector of Children's Literature, Kamini is especially interested in Malaysian stories (such as folktales from Borneo, legends from Langkawi, the clever animal tales of Sang Kancil and Buaya, and lesser known Orang Asli stories) as she still feels the pull of jungle spirits, having grown up in the jungles of Pahang, Perak and Johor. While she is comfortable telling stories to children using puppets, kamishibai boards, masks, paper cutting, drawn-tell and songs, she is also adept at telling stories for adults.
Kamini has performed at The Arts House, The Substation, The Gallery Theatre, in museums, schools, many more places! She has conducted numerous storytelling workshops for children as well as adults from introductory to master class level.
She is the only storyteller in Singapore to have had a regular weekly slot on radio telling stories live during 2005 – 2006. More recently, she has been interviewed on radio programmes such as ‘The Living Room', ‘Slice of Life' and ‘Passion People' (93.8Live) about her work as a storyteller. The local newspapers have also written feature articles on her life as a professional storyteller. Kamini mentors and nurtures individuals on their storytelling journey for she believes in building a community of storytellers. She helped found the Storytelling Association Singapore (SAS) in early 2006, and is currently serving her fourth term as the Association's President.
