“Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things which you had no knowledge; and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of God.” (24: 15)

The acts of spreading rumours, gossip and backbiting unfortunately occur on an everyday basis; be it at work, at school or even at home. Many people do not understand the serious impact of the hurtfulness that the victims of backbiting, gossiping, mocking and slandering are silently suffering. The consequences of spreading rumours and gossips can destroy someone's life and reputation. We might think that it is a minor matter but even something as a small comment is large to Allah s.w.t. Such actions negate all the virtues which Islam emphatically stresses upon all Muslims.

So, how should we deal with backbiting, rumours and gossip in our everyday life? Do we just ignore it? Or do we confront it?
