Mosque Tech Challenge 2015
Innamal a'malu binniyat - “Actions are dependent upon their Intentions”
This coming Ramadhan...
Ideas form from all places, why not we nurture ideas from the the most pure and sacred place of our community, that is the mosque. This 24hr-hackathon aims to bring youth closer to the Mosque to seek, implement and share the best and coolest ideas with technology towards the good of the community.
There will also be a workshop series leading up to the hackathon to introduce participants to the tools required, and hence in the process of thinking about ideas, build our capacity for the skills and knowledge required - for the future.
This hackathon will be special as it will be held during Ramadhan in a mosque and participants will be able to take part in the special night prayers and also mass iftar - and if it is not anymore reward, you get to spend 24hours overnight i'tiqaf in a Masjid.
We are looking for participants 18-35 years old in groups of maximum 3. Non-Muslims are welcome to take part. Do register early as spaces are limited.
What will the Hackathon be about?
We want to challenge our youths to solve the challenges that are present in our mosques and the community that enjoins it using technology. Either it's in the format of a Mobile App, a Web App or a Hardware implementation - or a combination - we want to see it solve a need, and we want it to be cool :)
Participants will be presented with a list of challenges which we are currently crowdsourcing right now from the mosques and if you have any just share it on our Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/105526796450705/105527069784011/
Or, you can implement an idea of your own - perhaps you see solutions we can't.
Judging will be done by our panel of judges from the industry and the mosque committees.
Take this time right now to brush up your skills as you only have 24 hours to implement it - actually less as you will also be performing the ritual prayers and also have enough time to break fast.
Prizes to be won. Watch this space for updates!
