Introduction
The science of tajweed is amongst the most important sciences of the Qur'an, for it necessitates from us all to be able to read the Words of Allah in the correct and appropriate manner they were intended. It focuses on the correct position of the organs of speech and the manner of articulation etc. Tajweed is not about merely learning rules and committing them to memory, but rather the correct application of those rules while reciting the Qur'an in order to gain the rewards and benefits associated with it.
This short 8 weeks is timely as we approach the month of Ramadhan, the month of the Qur'an.
Objectives of the Course
Objective of this course is to enable individuals have a strong foundation in learning tajweed rules to be able to read the Qur'an appropriately. This will include gaining a good understanding and/or application of:
1. Introduction to tajweed, its history and purpose.
2. Principles of tajweed and common mistakes.
3. Makharij al-Huroof (points of articulation of letters).
4. Rules for correct recitation and ther helpful tips for self-improvement.
Prerequisites
1. Knowing the Arabic alphabet and vowels and be able to read at an elementary level.
2. Familiar with Iqra', Qirati or its equivalent.
3. Be above 16 years of age.
Material
Each student will get a copy of the renowned series, ‘Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an' (book 1 & 2). This will form the basis of classroom interactive learning.
Duration
Each weekly class is 2 hours long (inclusive of break for salatul isya), delivered every Monday 8pm to 10pm. The duration for the completion of the introductory course will be 8 weeks – concluding on 15 June 2015. (Note: There will be no class on public holiday ).
Assessment
Student assessment will be modular and the instructor will monitor progress during classes. Those who successfully complete the course, will receive certificate of attendance.

Instructor
The respected male instructor for this course is highly qualified. Alongside his secular studies, he memorised Noble Qur'an as a teenager in the UK. His thirst for the Arabic language led him to Egypt, where he attained Diploma in Arabic. While in Egypt, he was granted formal permission to teach Qur'an recitation (Ijazah). Thereafter, he returned to the UK and attained BA Degree in Islamic Theology.
Until recently, he was an MRO at Masjid Al Mukminin in Jurong East, serving the local community. He currently teaches various Islamic disciplines on a freelance basis in various mosques and other organisations in Singapore; especially in the field of Tahfiz and Uloom al-Hadith.
