'Faith & Facebook: Overcoming Challenges of our Globalised Society'

Synopsis

We live in an iWorld. Surrounded by iPhones, iPads, MYspace, YOUtube, the focus is clear: Me, my, I. One need not look far to see this obsession with the self. In order to sell, advertisers must appeal to the ego. For example, many ads appeal to the part of us that loves power and being in charge. DirectTV tells you: "Don't watch TV, direct TV!" Yogurtland says: "You rule! Welcome to the land of endless yogurt possibilities, where you rule the portions, the choices and the scene."

In today's globalised world, we are often caught in the busy cycle, juggling between work, assignments, family, friends and social networking activities. Sometimes we get too busy and occupied in our digital world of music, gadgets, and of course social activities on Facebook, What's App, Twitter, Instagram and so on, that we may neglect not only those around us, but also our Beloved Prophet (SAW) and Lord.

Let's join and listen to Yasmin Mogahed, a writer, author, poet and motivator, in this April's Youth aLIVE Discourse, as she discusses how we can fulfil our obligations in this dunya as in school, career and social life, at the same time maintain a close and intimate relationship with our Creator.
