1,400 years ago, Islam gave rights to women that those in the West did not get till the 20th century. Yet, culture and customs dictate her role and place in society today as opposed to the Al-Qur'and Al-Sunna.

Some of the highly venerated figures in our tradition are women. These include Mary - mother of Prophet Jesus, Asiya - wife of the Pharaoh, and the "mothers of the believers". The first believer in Prophet (saw) was a woman. The first martyr in Islam was a woman. Many of the pivotal Hadith transmitters and narrators were women. Some of the celebrated mystics and ascetics were women.
