In today's fast-paced and competitive environment, mental health challenges, particularly anxiety, have become increasingly prevalent. Our convention, “Resilience and Mental Health: Thriving Under Anxiety and Pressure,” aims to address the urgent need for acknowledging and accepting mental health issues within our society.

A survey conducted by APKIM reveals that anxiety is a primary concern, with 87% of respondents knowing someone who may be struggling with mental health issues. While research by Singapore's Institute of Mental Health (IMH) indicates that Singaporean Muslims generally exhibit higher positive mental health, coping abilities, spirituality, and interpersonal skills compared to other religious groups (Vaingankar et al., 2021), there is a complex interplay between religious beliefs and mental health challenges.

IMH data shows that Singaporean Muslims have a higher incidence of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), often related to ritual imperfection, negative emotions, and uncertainty. Further, negative religious expressions, such as beliefs in divine punishment or abdicating personal well-being to God, have been linked to increased depression, anxiety, and stress (Cetty et al., 2022). Research from the Yaqeen Institute also correlates these factors with poorer mental health outcomes among Muslims (Islam & Umarji, 2023).

It is crucial to convey spirituality in the correct context, underscoring its role as a significant source of strength for Muslims. By doing so, we can help individuals develop resilience and effectively manage anxiety and pressure. The convention will also highlight the importance of early intervention, equipping individuals with skills to thrive while debunking myths that may prevent clients from seeking help or adhering to prescribed treatments.

Participants will gain insights into recognizing when professional help is needed and explore effective strategies to overcome mental health challenges. Our discussions will focus on normalizing mental health struggles as part of everyday life in Singapore's competitive environment and appreciating the benefits and potential drawbacks of this context.

Be part of the discussion as we delve into these critical issues, share valuable strategies, and foster a supportive community dedicated to mental well-being and resilience.

Join us for an insightful panel discussion where we will explore strategies to thrive and build resilience amidst the pressures of a competitive environment. Each panelist will begin with a 10-minute opening statement, followed by a dynamic discussion addressing the following key points:
