Ustaz Ridhwan Mohd Basor

Ridhwan Mohd Basor received his early education at Madrasah Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiah where the current Mufti of Singapore, Ustaz Dr. Mohamed Fatris Bakaram was the Mudir of the school. He went on to pursue his pre-university education at Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al-Islamiah where he completed his GCE ‘A’ levels and Thanawi Aliyyah Certificate. After 13 years in madrasah, he matriculated at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated with Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Political Science. He then went to the International Islamic University Malaysia for postgraduate studies in Islamic thought, having previously obtained Diploma in Islamic Studies from the same university.

Ridhwan had participated in local and international academic conferences, presenting on issues of Muslims and Post-Modernism. He had also contributed a chapter for an academic book published in Ottawa on Political Islam and Islamic revivalism. In 2010, he was the inaugural recipient of Ibn Taymiyah Scholarship Award from the Muhammadiyah Singapore. In 2011, he was awarded with Non-Resident Research Fellowship from the Virginia-based International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).

He had also served as the vice-president of the National University of Singapore Muslim Society (NUSMS) in 2007. Beyond student activism, he had also volunteered in various community organizations and humanitarian assistance programme. In 2008, he was awarded with New Volunteer Award by the Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) and the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports (MCYS) for his service as Youth Mentor for the PODZ programme. He currently serves the Darussalam Mosque Management Board as its Honorary Secretary. At present, he works as Senior Executive at the Office of the Mufti, Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).
