Muslim Travellers' guide - Fiqh of Travel
[Event has ended]
"... And He has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty..."
[Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 78]
In today's world, travelling to even the most distant places on earth is easy - and in some cases, necessary. We travel for leisure, work, studies, and many other reasons. However, as Muslims, there are certain considerations to make before we embark on that trip.
Here are some of the topics we'll be covering in this class:
1) The concept of Rukhsah (Concession) in Islam - Defining the purpose of your travel, and how it may affect jurisprudential rulings
2) Solat - What is Jama' & Qasar? - Its conditions - The duration allowed for Jama' & Qasar - A study of various scenarios a traveller may face - Finding the direction of the Qiblah
3) The Fiqh of food and drink - Understanding basic principles and outlines set by the Shariah - Food and drink in a halal-scarce city - Halal certification: necessary or overrated? - Tips and resources to help you determine if a particular food item is halal - The concept of Dharurah (Compulsive Necessity), and the Shariah's view on it.
4) Etiquette of travelling
5) A collection of supplications relevant to travelling
