Many a times, we feel frustrated that things don't go as we plan and may even end up blaming God for it. What Sidi Ibn ‘Ata is teaching us is that, God is ever with us in His Mercy and how does one advance closer to God with the proper comportment deserving as a servant and knowing what is his Lordship about. Thus the one who is the complete in servanthood is resilience in the sense of his ever wanting to improve himself and be closer to God.

The Kitab al-Hikam (Book of Wisdom) of Sidi Ahmad Ibn Ata'illah (ra) is one of the classic texts of tassawuf. In form it is a collection of aphoristic statements in beautiful Arabic. However it is an ocean of meanings whose outer simplicity often veils one from the depth and profundity of its teachings. Many Masters of knowledge in Islamic tradition have used and recommended it to seekers down the centuries from Sidi Ibn Ata'illah's time in the 7th century of the Hijra.

Ibn ‘Ata' Illah, as a spiritual guide, is concerned in this work with the second moment of this ascent, that of way and works, so begins his book by letting the traveller know that the matter of his spiritual progress is in Allah's hands alone. Discouragement at the inevitable mistakes one makes in the path is a sign of relying on one's deeds rather than on Allah.

This will guide us to understand better our role as servant to Allah swt. It will enhance our hearts to overcome any challenges which we face daily in our life. It connects us with Allah swt at all times. Thus avoiding doing anything bad.
