The Ummah Wide Pop Up Film Festival x Simplyislam is a journey across the planet as we explore global Muslim life, culture, faith and community through short films from throughout the world.

The film festival pop up is a curated experience made up of short films and video clips that tell the story of Muslim communities that are rarely seen on TV. Shown together this diverse group of films and filmmakers show the complexity, beauty and struggles faced by Muslim communities in a way you have never seen before.

Hosted and curated by the founder of Ummah Wide, Dustin Craun, the film festival is now touring the world with screenings scheduled in: San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, London, Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, Doha & Dubai.

Sit back, enjoy the short films, share your thoughts and discuss Muslim representation in the media and then go back with ideas to tell your own stories!

BIOS

JOHARI ABDUL AZIZ has close to 30 years of experience working in television, film & video production, both behind & in front of the camera.

As a director, producer and scriptwriter, JOHARI has worked on tv programs for local terrestrial channels, cable channels, as well as corporate & online videos. He has also written for & directed stage productions in both Malay and English. TV production has taken him to places like Turkey, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Brunei. Currently, JOHARI is directing the long-form drama ‘TANGLIN' for Channel 5, Mediacorp.

JOHARI is also an actor/host/voice-talent who has appeared for television, video, film and stage productions.


DUSTIN CRAUN is the CEO and Founder of Ummah Wide, a digital media and film production startup telling stories that transcend the borders of global communities. He is a social innovator, writer, digital strategist, community organizer, and educator. His writings on race, philosophy, and Islamic studies have been published in academic journals and popular publications.

As a consultant he has worked with different non-profits, universities, social enterprises and startups based in the United States and throughout the world.
