The use of Dinar and Dirham is now a hot topic among Singaporean Muslims. There is a call to use these gold and silver coins in the marketplace here in Secular and avowedly Capitalist Singapore. Sadly many are still in the dark about it. The call to just use dinar and dirham in trading without even basic knowledge of Muamalat and Iktisad is only going to generate confusion and indeed, going by what is said by S. Umar r.a. is just plain wrong.

S. Umar was quoted to have said,
لا يبع في سوقنا الا من قد تفقه في الدين

"It is disallowed to trade in our markets (souq) unless one has knowledge/understanding of fiqh (Muamalat) of the Deen (Islam)!"

Many of us are already buying and selling without even the most basic knowledge in Fiqh Muamalat and yet there are those who want to get into Dinar and Dirham trading also without sufficient knowledge in the name of just 'amal? Is it not time for us to find out more?
