. NS is yet another phase of life for any male Singaporean. And to go through that phase totally unprepared is like going to war without serving NS. Hence it makes logical sense to train would-be enlistees to the life in National Service.
For Muslim NSmen, the challenges are palpable more trying. Some are at crossroads in fulfilling their role as a Muslim and as an NSmen. Issues like compulsory daily solah and Friday prayers are just some of the concerns that need to be addressed. Oftentimes, we see our fellow Muslim brothers drowning in the vile of the system. Those that survived are more rugged Muslim individuals as NS provided a rich training ground for their development.
An NS preparatory workshop is most suitable and effective for this cause. Simultaneously also, similar programs can be run while they undergo other different as aspects of NS life like fasting month, leading Friday prayers, overseas training and transition into civilian life. In this way we can also allow other Singaporeans to understand us, our way of life and dispel any misconceptions. Hopefully too, this would not only add to social security and stability, but a more understanding Singaporeans towards his fellow man. Through such initiatives a better working relationship, teamwork and camaraderie can be established for the good of the community and for future generations.
