20 Jamadilakhir (170th day after Hijrah) 1434

Those who say, “Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,”
“Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers.”
Allāhumma ʾanta rabb-ī lā ʾilāha ʾillā ʾanta, ḫalaqta-nī wa-ʾanā ʿabdu-ka, wa-ʾanā ʿalā ʿahdi-ka wa-waʿdi-ka ma staṭaʿtu, ʾaʿūḏu bi-ka min šarrin mā ṣanaʿtu, ʾabūʾu la-ka bi-naʿmati-ka wa-ʾabūʾu bi-ḏanb-ī fa-ġfir lī fa-ʾinna-hu lā yaġfiru ḏ-ḏunūba ʾillā ʾanta
‘O Allaah, You are my Lord, there is no God but You, You created me and I am your servant and I abide to your covenant and promise as best as I can, I take refuge in you from the evil of which I committed. I acknowledge your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily no one can forgive sin except you.’

In Islamic History (Sirah), worthy of mention are these:

1. Abu Jahal who hurt and abused our Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him especially defaming Rasulullah as crazy, liar and a poet

However, many others came to the forefront in support and protected the name of our Last Messenger…

2. The Muhajirin who underwent persecution while being faithful at Mecca before migration to Medina

3. The Anshar who became helpers to the Muhajirs, sharing wealth, property and forged relations

4. The Al Khulafa Al Rasyidin

i. Abu Bakar Al Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) who is very generous

ii. Umar Bin Khatab (may Allah be pleased with him) whose opinions often speak of the Qur’anic truths

5. Aisyah (may Allah be pleased with her) is clear from accusation

Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you; rather it is good for you. For every person among them is what [punishment] he has earned from the sin, and he who took upon himself the greater portion thereof – for him is a great punishment.
Why did they [who slandered] not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, “It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander”?
6. Zainab binti Jahsy (may Allah be pleased with her)
And [remember, O Muhammad], when you said to the one on whom Allah bestowed favor and you bestowed favor, “Keep your wife and fear Allah,” while you concealed within yourself that which Allah is to disclose. And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We married her to you in order that there not be upon the believers any discomfort concerning the wives of their adopted sons when they no longer have need of them. And ever is the command of Allah accomplished.
There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allah has imposed upon him. [This is] the established way of Allah with those [prophets] who have passed on before. And ever is the command of Allah a destiny decreed.
7. Companion especially Zaid bin Haritsah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.

I say:  The Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) clarified the wisdom behind this pointing with the index finger. And it is that it is severe against the Shaytaan.  There has come in the hadeeth which the author has cited:  “It is more severe against the Shaytaan than iron, meaning the index finger.”  And there has also come on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar, as is within the collection of Al-Humaydee 1/313 as well as Abu Ya’laa and his Musnad 2/275, as is within the footnote of the Prophet’s Prayer Described, “It is the shooting of Shaytaan, no one will forget when he does this.” meaning, when he points with his index finger while saying At-Tashahhud.  Al-Bayhaqee reports in As-Sunan Al-Kubraa 2/132:  “On the authority of Al-Waaqidee, who said, ‘Katheer ibn Zayd narrated to us on the authority of Naafi’ from Ibn ‘Umar, that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:  “Moving the finger in the prayer terrifies the Shaytaan.”   Al-Bayhaqee said:  “Muhammad Ibn ‘Umar al-Waaqidee was alone in narrating it.  And he is not strong.  We have narrated from Mujaahid that he said:  ‘The man moving his finger when sitting in the prayer is a suppressor for the Shaytaan.’” And he cited the chain of narration after the report of Mujahid 2/133.
