My daughter has stopped praying & started listening more to Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus…
On 1st thought – I just wanted to tell her it’s haram, you cannot do this & that, you must pray else you create Allah’s wrath etc. My nagging side wanted to explode.
~ ME AND MADONNA

Then I took a deep breath, and reflected on myself when I was a young girl listening to Madonna, splashing water on myself while taking the wudhu coz dad told me to, and I did it out of fear than love for Allah or the Prophet.
Everything was so “leceh” ( a trouble ) I did it with a big sigh and mumbling and grumbling all the way.
Then I looked at my daughter and thought, “Well she is no different.”
~ HOW YA ALLAH HOW?

So how do I make her pray so she wants to do it for the love of Allah – to express her gratitude to Allah for all that she has now while the girls her age are suffering in some parts of the world?
~ SURRENDER TO YOU

I have no answers so I retreated to Allah, silently pray and make dua for my kids asking that they shall grow up to be grateful Muslim & Muslimah and be able to contribute meaningfully to the ummah and keep them away from evil.
“Please show me the way Allah – how do I handle my kids with the challenges of modern times?”
~ THE ANSWER

After prayers – a voice came from within me:
“Show LOVE and Compassion to your kids.”
So I did. The whole day I was simply being attentive to her.
~ I WANT TO BE A SINGER JUST LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT

I sat next to her as she watches the Youtube of Taylor Swift singing and she said, “I want to be a singer Ummi.”
I just looked at her and smiled, saying nothing about her short burst of interest.
~ THANK YOU ALLAH FOR THESE EARS

Zuhur came and I said, “It’s great that Allah has given you ears to hear isn’t it – so you can hear the tunes of music?” She nodded & agreed.
“Come, let’s be grateful to Allah and pray to him”. She turned off the Youtube and prayed with me.
“Alhamdulillah! It’s working Ya Allah“, I said silently in my heart.

Then we sat and watched cartoon while I hugged and kissed her.
Out of the blue she said, “Ummi when I grow up, I want to build a school for the orphans.” I smiled and said “Alhamdulillah” and praised her so much for it and made a big deal of what she had said.
I told her that Allah will reward her for her great intention of wanting to do good for the ummah, and how being Muslim is about doing just that.
She smiled happily with the knowledge that Allah is so Generous & Loving.
~ BED TIME LOVE STORIES

At night, I told her stories of our Prophet (p.b.u.h); how he was kind & compassionate.
“Ya Allah I did what you wanted me to – Be & do love & compassion.”
~ LET ME DIE FIRST UMMI

Next day she said, “Ummi I want to die before you do because I love you so much and I can’t bear missing you if you die before me.”
~ HAPPILY EVER AFTER

I told her it doesn’t matter who dies first, that we shall meet again and be together in the heavens. We just need to do good and keep our prayers.
“Allah will grant us heaven, insy’allah out of His Mercy”
She said “You mean we will stay in heaven forever and ever Ummi?”
I said “Well of course!”
“I’ll never be apart from you Ummi?”
“Never my dear, Allah loves us and wants us to go to heaven – we just need to do good and keep our prayers.”
~ PRAYERS TO BE WITH YOU UMMI

Next thing I know she started doing her prayers on her own.
“I want to pray because I want to be with you forever in heaven ummi because I love you.”
I smiled – “Alhamdulillah Ya Allah now she is doing it out of love for me. A great start for now.”
~ MY DUA FOR YOU

Insya’allah one day I pray she will start loving You more than she loves anything else in the world. For the love and missing she has for me is none other than the love & missing of You.
Deep inside her – her spirit knows that.
