The Four Righteous Caliphs and the Development of Mazhab

[Event has ended]
Tue, 23 September 2014, 8pm - 9.30pm | English
Faithhub Center

course, sirah

Fees: Early bird rate until 9 Sept 2014: $140 (adult), $90 (student). After 9 Sept 2014: $150 (adult), $100 (student)

In order to understand the issues that remain divisive within Islam today, we have to trace the origins from the period of the four righteous Caliphs. The objective is to firstly, increase our appreciation of a decisive period in Islamic history after the prophetic era and secondly, to understand that our divisions are deep-rooted in our socio-political history.

This course will also identify the multifarious jurisprudential legal schools of thought (mahzab) in Islam - how it began, developed, flourished and/or disappeared. It will also differentiate the jurisprudential approaches of these four main schools of thought (Maliki, Hambali, Syafi'e and Hambali) in the way they solve legal issues within Islam.

The main purpose of this course is to raise understanding and appreciation of these jurisprudential schools of thought and conclude that despite their differences, should unite rather than divide us.
